Experts from government, academia and business gave speeches, hosted sessions and presented solutions on the theme of “Green Solutions for Tough Economic Times” on March 16-18 at the Green California Summit, held at the Sacramento Convention Center.
Those in attendance secretaries from government agencies, facility managers, engineers, architects, building managers, and many other individuals involved in green technology. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger also made an appearance.
Showcasing Japanese innovation in green technology and governmental policy at the Summit’s Exposition was Nikkei America, sponsor of Green Innovation Connect.
The main section explained the Eco-Model Cities project of the Cabinet Secretariat, highlighting the environmental efforts of individual Japanese municipalities that could serve as a model for American cities and towns.

Also in the main booth, the Japanese Business Alliance for Smart Energy Worldwide (JASE-World) promoted its activities, while a Japanese architect presented lessons in sustainability to be learned from traditional Japanese architecture, with Nikkei America displaying news articles on green tech.
Ringing the main booth, Daikin AC, NEC Tokin, Noritz and Shikoku all had their own booths featuring exhibits on their respective products and technologies. Daikin AC showcased its energy-efficient HVAC technology, while NEC Tokin had examples of how its advanced lithium ion batteries could be used in green transportation and building for power and storage.
Noritz explained the merits of tankless water heater technology to visitors with the aid of one of its units, while Shikoku showed off both its Eco DeVita eco-friendly wall covering and its Green Shade building cooling systems.

On the night before the end of the Summit, the consul general of Japan in San Francisco, Mr. Yasumasa Nagamine, hosted a dinner at a local restaurant, inviting representatives from state governments, and the business and academic communities to hear about some of the innovative Japanese technology being showcased at the Summit.
Noritz showed off its energy-saving tankless hot water heaters.
Secretary Linda Adams of the California Environmental Protection Agency, State Sen. Fran Pavley (responsible for the landmark bill, AB30), and Keith Miller of Green Technology were among of those kind enough to attend and make a few remarks.

Shikoku demonstrated its Eco De Vita and Green Shade products.
